Assignment #4 Summary The Purpose of this project was to determine the most suitable sites for a regional nature center.
Our goals were to locate possible nature center sites that met our geographic and design criteria. Our criteria: Public, and Park/Recreation Lands located within 2 kilometers of the Broad River that were centrally located among regional schools and existing state parks. In ARCView our required data sets included: 1) landuse - public land and park/recreation land 2) state parks 3) schools 4) river 5) watershed 6) roads, cities, and counties Analysis Procedures Several theme layers (counties, cities, roads, and river)were unaltered. To locate our "premium" nature center sites we analyzed data by "querying" and by "select by theme". First, Land uses in the watersheed was "queried" to include only public lands and park/recreation lands. Second, Schools and State Parks were "selected by theme" to eliminate thosem ore than 15 kilometers from the Broad River. Third, Public lands and park/recreation land was "selected by theme" to include only those located within 2 kilometers of the Broad River. This gave us a data theme set of 5 sites within the watershed as possible nature center locations. The group then visually located the two sites that ensured a centralized location in the region. We then selected these two sites as our "Proposed" locations for the Broad River Nature Center. |
